Valerie Houston

Valerie Houston is pleased to be making her SpeakEasy Stage debut. Valerie is a native of Memphis, TN. She is excited about performing in the New England theatre community for the first time at SpeakEasy Stage. She has previously performed at the Hattiloo Theater in Memphis as Ma’ Rainey in August Wilson’s Ma’ Rainey’s Black Bottom and as Sophia in the Memphis premiere of The Color Purple the Musical at the Playhouse on the Square. Valerie has also performed in numerous theatrical productions for the Blues City Cultural Center. She has written and performed a one-woman show entitled Madame CJ Walker the Miracle Hair Grower and is a recorded gospel artist. Valerie holds an associate’s degree in Music from Southwest Tennessee Community College and is currently completing her BLS at the University of Memphis in Interdisciplinary Studies. She would like to thank her family and friends for their loyalty and undying support.
