Mel Johnson, Jr.

Mel Johnson, Jr. was featured in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Road Show. On Broadway he starred in Hot Feet, The Lion King, Big Deal, The Rink, Eubie!, and On The Twentieth Century. Mr. Johnson also currently tours the nation starring in his one man show Frederick Douglass in the Shadow of Slavery. His national tour and Off Broadway credits include Two Gentlemen of Verona, Jelly’s Last Jam, Boys From Syracuse, and Hamlet (The Public Theater/NYSF). His extensive regional theatre experience includes Hartford Stage, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and ACT Seattle to name a few. His notable film work includes starring in Total Recall, American Bluenote, and Intimate Strangers. On television Mr. Johnson was a series regular in “On the Air” and guest-starred on a variety of shows, including “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “The Practice,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” and the mini-series “Liberty.”
