"The Boston theatre scene can use Pilgrim’s commitment to innovation, physical performance and risk-taking. The city thirsts for more experimental work, and this company is trying to push theatre in a new direction." -- The Boston Globe
Now in our eighteenth year, Pilgrim Theatre Research and Performance Collaborative continues to bring original, cutting-edge, company-created performances to Boston and beyond. Our company is artist-driven. We are actors, musicians, composers, designers, and writers -- collaborating under the direction of Artistic Director Kim Mancuso.
Recent works which have premiered at the Boston Center for the Arts include Faust 2002, Jean-Claude van Itallie’s The Tibetan Book of the Dead (or, How Not To Do It Again), Moon Over Dark Street, The House Not Touched By Death, Letters from Sarajevo, and The Wild Place. From the BCA, these performances have toured to critical acclaim in Europe, Latin America, New York and across Massachusetts.
The artists of Pilgrim Theatre are committed to a long-term creative process, in order to generate challenging performances which address the issues of our time. Due to our passion for rigorous training and research, it may take us up to two years to create a new work for the theatre. We are a cottage industry, not an assembly line. We offer you quality and uniqueness.
We strive to make our work available to a wide audience base through touring; “Pay What You Can” evenings and free performances; work with special needs constituencies (especially Deaf and Deaf-Blind audiences); as well as educational workshops and training. All of our productions are American Sign Language interpreted.
