Characters and conventions collide in Tom Stoppard’s layered and witty indictment of the English "whodunnit," merging murder mystery clichés with a satirical send up of insouciant newspaper critics that results in a hilarious cautionary tale for all who put their ego ahead of Art.
Moon and Birdboot, two mediocre critics, have gone to the theatre to review yet another English murder mystery, set in the parlor of isolated Muldoon Manor. As the fog rolls in, it soon becomes clear that the reviewers, and the actors performing the play, have deeper intrigues and motivations for being at the performance. Conventional boundaries, theatrical fiction, and actual reality blur, then vanish altogether, when a series of murderous events cast doubt upon whether or not it is a play or, the perfect murder that is in progress.
Approximate running time is 90 minutes with 1 intermission. It is recommended for audience 12 and older due to mature content.
