7/18/19 - 7/21/19

When Thrace’s twin Mabry dies suddenly, he plunges himself into the Underworld in an effort to reunite his family. And so begins a journey to Hades where he is met by a fantastical cast of characters who explore memories, gender identities, family, and the very nature of love. Using the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, this production seeks to familiarize its audience with the experience of those who identify as gender queer, and to open their hearts and minds to envision a world that is safe and open to them. Through an immersive style, masks, music, and puppetry, the audience is guided through the Underworld, where they are led to examine the question: what would you sacrifice for those you love?

The Elm Tree is immersive theater, meaning the audience will follow the action through both the Plaza and Black Box Theatres. While there will be some seating, audiences are encouraged to stand, move about, and find the best angle to view each scene. Comfortable shoes are encouraged. A mask for each audience member will also be provided for use during the production and every effort will be made to accommodate the audience and their comfort in viewing the show.

Running time: 90 minutes with no intermission.
