Contre-temps

The Maso Studio, Huntington Theatre, 264 Huntington Avenue

A musical comedy telling the sensational story of François Courdot, the French operetta conductor who traveled to New York hoping to become a Broadway composer.

How did a French operetta conductor end up in New York, hoping to become a Broadway composer?

This is the sensational story of François Courdot (1919-1968), an important musician and artist largely unknown to the general public – until now.

Thanks to the precise work of biographer James McGraff and the recent discoveries of some rare scores, Contre-temps is a musical biopic of this French artist in America. The show is a euphoric and richly illustrated dive into the history of operetta and musical comedy in the 20th century, joyfully carried out by the creative team of Comedians! and the Opaline Trio. Theater, jazz, operetta, history, musical comedy, romance, biography, travel… there are a thousand reasons to love Contre-temps!

Performed in French with English captions.
