A group of fourteen year old girls fight for their childhoods as they experience love, loss, and change in their final session of summer camp.
Somewhere in the backwoods of northern Michigan, five teenagers come together for their final session at their childhood summer camp. It’s the summer of 1997, and over the last year, their former cabin mate, Louise, has died and been replaced in the cabin by Beth, the sheltered, religious new girl. The other four campers – Allison, Erin, Jamie, and Casey – must navigate their grief alone. The teenagers spend 13 nights alone in the woods together, struggling to come to terms with queerness, family history, old friendships, and a summer of endings. Based on true events that took place over a number of years, 13 Nights in the Woods Somewhere North of Lake Michigan is a reflection on grasping at youth, but still growing up too fast.
