This genre combines elements of folk music with socially committed lyrics and messages of justice, solidarity, and cultural pride. Initially composed by renowned voices of the Puerto Rican scene – Silverio Pérez, Josy Latorre, Nano Cabrera, Tony Croatto (RIP), and Irving García (RIP), their songs have been a tool to preserve and promote Puerto Rican cultural identity while advocating for social causes. About to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the group is opening a new concert route to celebrate its influence on Puerto Rican culture and on the new generations who enjoy their inspiring melodies as much as they did yesterday.
