Castle of our Skins

It Must All Be Done In Darkness

BCA Plaza Black Box Theatre, 539 Tremont Street

“It must all be done in darkness…” is an intimate and immersive experience centered on Harriet Jacobs. A writer, abolitionist, and survivor, Jacobs spent seven years in isolation before escaping to Massachusetts and earning her freedom. Through film, movement, audience participation, and music, this world premiere opera celebrates Jacobs and her story of perseverance. A story that begs for us to learn, grow, and heal.

This project was created by Anthony R. Green, with support from the Berlin University of the Arts, Boston Cultural Council, Castle of our Skins, and the ancestors.

The Friday 7pm show will be pay what you want. No minimum price.

Castle of our Skins is proud to participate in Massachusetts’ Card to Culture program; a collaboration between Mass Cultural Council and the Department of Transitional Assistance, the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, and the Massachusetts Health Connector, by breaking down the financial barriers to cultural programming.

EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders receive discounted admission of $8 to all Castle of our Skins’ “It Must All Be Done in Darkness” performances. Cardholders should present their respective card at the door to gain admission. See the complete list of participating organizations offering EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare discounts.
