Eric Tran

My Mother's Applause

BCA Plaza Theatre, 539 Tremont Street

A first generation American kid-immigrant parent story about a Vietnamese-American boy coming to terms with the cost of the pursuit of his happiness.

Like every other college student, Eric is trying to figure out what to do with his life in the future but the past begins to eat away at him. Through the combination of a theatrical performance and a runway structure, the piece aims to capture Eric and his mom’s wavering relationship while he explores what makes him happy. From the Vietnamese-American experience, the pursuit of happiness has always rested on the parents’ wants but will he challenge this generational standard?
