By Any Other Name Workshop
The Huntington Theatre, 264 Huntington Avenue
June 19 2026Come see what SpeakEasy and Somerled Arts are brewing for Spring 27 with this Sneak Peak of the World Premier Musical By Any Other Name, written by Deb Laufer (Rooted) and Daniel Green (The Tale of the Gifted Prince) and directed by Boston’s own M. Bevin O’Gara (Everything You’ve Ever Liked!).
Shakespeare’s heroines are done dying, marrying, and generally behaving. When the Bard’s most iconic young women collide in a magically glitched storyline, they start questioning everything, who they love, who they are, and why things have to end the way they always do.
Witty, surprising, and just a little bit feral, this World Premiere of By Any Other Name is a fresh, music-filled take on breaking the rules, finding your people, and choosing your own ending.
Shakespeare’s heroines. Off script. Finally.
This event marks an exciting milestone as we launch our brand-new development program At Rise with Somerled Arts, a dedicated initiative designed to champion fresh voices and bring thrilling new musicals to life from the ground up. This workshop is your chance to see the piece in its raw, evolving form before its official world premiere in Spring 2027. You’ll meet the creative team, learn about the process so far and see selections of the work that we want your eyes on, as we continue to support the development of this incredible musical.

YOUR INVESTMENT HELPS
New Musicals don’t appear out of thin air.
Workshops are where artists experiment, rewrite, discover, and occasionally throw out an entire scene the night before. They’re an essential part of bringing a new piece of theater to life, and your ticket helps make that process possible.
Choose the level that feels right for you:
- $25 – Welcome to the Room
Helps cover the basics.
- $35 – Support the Process
Contributes toward artist stipends, rehearsal space, scripts, sheet music, and more.
- $50 – Invest in New Work
Provides meaningful support for the workshop and helps us continue creating opportunities for Boston artists and audiences to engage with theater in its earliest stages.
- $85 – Pay It Forward
Helps subsidize lower-priced tickets, ensuring more people can experience and support the development of new musicals.
Whatever level you choose, thank you. Your ticket isn’t just admission to an event—it’s an investment in a new musical and in Boston’s future as a home for new work.
